Solis S6 8kW Hybrid Inverter | S6-EH1P8K-L-PLUS
Product details
The Solis S6 8kW Plus, model S6-EH1P8K-L-PLUS, is the high-output single-phase hybrid in the S6 Plus range for 48 V batteries: two trackers taking two strings each, up to 16 kWp of panels and 190 A of battery current. Solar supplies the house first, the battery soaks up the surplus, and the backup circuit moves to battery power in under 10 ms if the grid fails.
Rated at 8 kW, or 34.8 A at 230 V, it always needs G99 approval before it is installed. It uses up to 12.8 kW of PV at once, and its 50 A passthrough lets the backup circuit carry large loads while the grid is on.
S6 8kW Plus at a glance
What's in the box
The 8 kW's packing list from Solis's S6-EH1P(3-8)K-L-PLUS manual (v1.2, October 2025). It differs from the smaller models only in the number of DC connectors.
- The 8 kW inverter, its back plate and two screws that secure it
- Four expansion bolts
- Four pairs of MC4 connectors, one for each of the four strings
- An ESCT-TA16-100A/50mA CT on a 5 m lead; Solis makes the CT compulsory in a hybrid system
- A Wi-Fi/LAN data stick for SolisCloud
- The parallel communication cable and four RJ45 connectors
- A quick installation manual
- Does not include a DC cable for connecting to battery storage. Solis specifies 1 AWG cable on R60-8 ring terminals for the 8 kW.
- A meter, which is optional (see the questions below)
- PV cable, AC cables for grid and backup, and the AC isolator
Panels and strings
The 8 kW is the first size in the range with two strings per tracker: each input takes 16 A, so a tracker handles 32 A, with 40 A short-circuit. Strings sharing a tracker should match in panel count and orientation. The MPPT range is 90–435 V with start-up at 90 V, and no string may exceed 500 V open-circuit, even on the coldest morning.
With 32 A per tracker, the full-load MPPT range starts at just 200 V, so shorter strings still deliver the full output. Two figures set the array size: 16 kWp is Solis's recommended maximum, twice the 8 kW rating, and 12.8 kW is the most PV power it uses at once, 160% of the rating, with the rest clipped. A large array split across east and west faces suits that cap well, as the two halves peak at different times of day.
The battery side
It accepts any 40–60 V lithium or lead-acid battery, with BMS communication over CAN or RS485, and charges and discharges at up to 8 kW and 190 A. A single IntelliHome 10 kWh, rated 200 A, covers that in full; the 16 kWh is rated 157 A and the 5 kWh 100 A, so with those the battery sets the limit unless more units are paralleled.
The battery cables are heavier than on the 3 to 6 kW models, and Solis recommends a 300 A DC breaker on the battery side. Inverters built before April 2026 need Solis's firmware update before commissioning with an IntelliHome, and with no battery fitted the "No battery" setting runs it as a grid-tied solar inverter.
Backup, generator and off-grid
Backup delivers 8 kW continuously and twice that for 10 seconds. While the grid is connected, up to 50 A can pass through to the backup circuit; in a power cut, the backup loads have to fit within 8 kW.
A generator connects with automatic on/off control, the inverter can run off-grid from solar alone, and existing grid-tied PV can be coupled in for export control. Six units in parallel reach 48 kW, in single-phase or three-phase arrangements.
Grid approval
At 34.8 A per phase, the 8 kW is more than twice G98's 16 A, so a G99 application has to be approved by the network operator before installation. The installer submits it, and work goes ahead once approval comes through.
Built in
- PV switch, ground-fault and residual-current monitoring, anti-islanding and reverse-polarity protection
- 7-inch display with Bluetooth for app setup, and SolisCloud via the Wi-Fi/LAN stick; 4G is optional
- Fan-assisted cooling, which Solis calls intelligent cooling, unlike the fanless 3 to 6 kW models
- AFCI arc-fault detection is an option, not standard
On the wall
It weighs 23.5 kg in the same 335 × 560 × 253 mm case as the rest of the range and is IP66, rated −25 °C to +60 °C. Being fan-cooled, it is better in a garage, plant room or on an outside wall than near living space, and Solis rules out living areas and direct sunlight anyway.
Mount it vertically, within 5°, with at least 300 mm above, 150 mm each side and 500 mm in front, and 800 mm from its base to the floor (500 mm if there is no battery cabinet or heat source underneath). Solis prohibits mounting one inverter directly above another.

Questions on the 8 kW
Not normally: the CT in the box is Solis's standard and is compulsory for hybrid operation. Fitting a meter instead? Please note the SOL-METER-1PH-CT1 does not work with the 8K plus, the SOL-METER-1PH-EASTRON is required.
The 10 kW takes 21 A per string (42 A per tracker), up to 20 kWp of panels and 210 A of battery current. The 8 kW is 16 A per string, 16 kWp and 190 A.
One IntelliHome 10 kWh covers its full 190 A. With 5 kWh units, parallel at least two through a combiner box for full battery power.
1 AWG on R60-8 ring terminals, heavier than the 2 AWG used on the 3 to 6 kW models. It is not supplied with the inverter.
Five years as standard. Extensions take it to 10 or 20 years; include the serial number in the order notes, and Solis issues the certificate in about 6 to 8 weeks.
A qualified electrician, to BS 7671. The manual says to switch off the battery and confirm 0 V before handling its cables.
