Solis S6 6kW Hybrid Inverter | S6-EH1P6K-L-PLUS
Product details
The Solis S6 6kW Plus, S6-EH1P6K-L-PLUS, is the largest model in Solis's single-phase S6 Plus range that keeps one string per tracker and cools without a fan. It runs the panels, a 48 V battery and the house from one unit, and if the grid fails the backup circuit is on battery power in under 10 ms.
It is rated 6 kW (26.1 A at 230 V), so a G99 application must be approved before installation. Solis recommends up to 12 kWp of panels, of which it uses up to 9.6 kW at once, and it charges and discharges the battery at up to 6 kW and 135 A.
S6 6kW Plus at a glance
What's in the box
Solis's packing list for the 3 to 6 kW models, from section 1.4 of the S6-EH1P(3-8)K-L-PLUS manual (v1.2, October 2025). The 6 kW comes with the CT, not a meter.
- The 6 kW inverter, its back plate and two fastening screws
- Four expansion bolts for mounting
- Two pairs of MC4 connectors for the two strings
- An ESCT-TA16-100A/50mA CT with a 5 m lead, required by Solis for hybrid operation
- The Wi-Fi/LAN monitoring stick for SolisCloud
- One parallel communication cable and four RJ45 connectors
- The quick installation manual
- Battery cables (Solis specifies 2 AWG, roughly 35 mm², with R38-8 lugs) and a 300 A DC breaker
- The optional SDM120CTM meter, sold separately if wanted instead of the CT
- PV and AC cabling, the AC isolator and consumer-unit protection
A 2024-built unit may arrive with a Wi-Fi/GPRS stick instead of the Wi-Fi/LAN one; nothing else differs.
Panels and strings
Each of the two trackers takes one string, at up to 16 A working and 20 A short-circuit. The MPPT range is 90–435 V, start-up is at 90 V, and 500 V is the hard ceiling for the open-circuit voltage at the coldest expected temperature.
The 6 kW has the tightest string window in the range. To deliver its full 9.6 kW of PV through two 16 A inputs, each string has to work at 300 V or more while staying under 500 V open-circuit when cold, so string length needs checking against both limits. The array figures are separate again: 12 kWp is the largest Solis recommends, twice the rating, while 9.6 kW, 160%, is the most it uses at once, with any surplus clipped.
The battery side
It works with any lithium or lead-acid battery between 40 and 60 V, communicating with the BMS over CAN or RS485. For the full 6 kW and 135 A, pick a battery rated 135 A or more: the IntelliHome 10 kWh (200 A) and 16 kWh (157 A) both qualify, while a single 5 kWh (100 A) holds battery power below 6 kW.
Solis requires a firmware update on any inverter built before April 2026 before it is commissioned with an IntelliHome battery. Without a battery, set "No battery" and it runs as a grid-tied PV inverter.
Backup, generator and off-grid
Backup output is 6 kW continuous, with a 10-second peak of 12 kW for motor starts. Up to 40 A passes through to the backup circuit while the grid is live, but during a power cut those loads must fit within 6 kW.
A generator can be connected and started and stopped automatically, and the inverter can run off-grid on solar alone. An existing grid-tied PV system can be coupled in for export control and off-grid use. Up to six units can work in parallel, and a three-phase system can be built from three or more.
Grid approval
At 26.1 A per phase the 6 kW is beyond G98's 16 A limit, so the installer submits a G99 application and the network operator has to approve it before installation.
Built in
- PV switch, insulation and residual-current monitoring, anti-islanding protection
- 7-inch LCD and Bluetooth for local setup; SolisCloud via the Wi-Fi/LAN stick, 4G as an option
- Natural convection cooling: the 6 kW is the largest model in the range without a fan
- AFCI arc-fault detection is optional on this range
On the wall
It weighs 23.5 kg and measures 335 × 560 × 253 mm, the same case as the smaller models. IP66 allows outdoor fitting from −25 °C to +60 °C, but not in direct sunlight, which derates it, and not in living areas where people or animals spend long periods.
Fix it upright, within 5° of vertical, leaving 300 mm above, 150 mm at each side and 500 mm in front. Underneath, keep 800 mm to the floor, or 500 mm where no battery cabinet or other heat source is below it. Two units must never be mounted one above the other.

Questions on the 6 kW
The 6 kW takes one string per tracker and has no fan. The 8 kW takes two strings per tracker, up to 16 kWp of panels and 190 A of battery current, and is fan-cooled, so it suits a bigger array or battery bank.
Any 40–60 V battery works. For full battery power choose one rated at least 135 A, such as the IntelliHome 10 kWh or 16 kWh, or parallel two 5 kWh units.
No. It ships with the CT, which Solis makes compulsory for hybrid systems; a meter (SDM120CTM) is optional.
Yes. SolisCloud works through the supplied Wi-Fi/LAN stick, and Bluetooth is built in for setup on site.
Five years as standard, extendable to 10 or 20. Put the serial number in the order notes when buying the extension; Solis sends the certificate in about 6 to 8 weeks.
It should be installed by a qualified electrician, as the grid, battery and consumer unit connections fall under BS 7671. The manual requires the battery to be isolated and confirmed at 0 V before its cables are touched.
