Solis S6 3.6kW Hybrid Inverter | S6-EH1P3.6K-L-PLUS
Product details
The Solis S6 3.6kW Plus, model S6-EH1P3.6K-L-PLUS, is a single-phase hybrid inverter for 48 V batteries from Solis's Solarator range. One box runs the panels, the battery and the house: solar goes to the home first, the surplus charges the battery, and if the grid drops the backup circuit switches to the battery in under 10 ms.
Its rated output current is 15.7 A at 230 V, inside the 16 A a phase that G98 covers, so on its own it needs only a notification to the network operator once it is commissioned. It takes up to 7.2 kWp of panels, Solis's recommended maximum, and uses up to 5.76 kW of their output at any moment; it moves up to 3.6 kW in or out of the battery.

What's in the box
This is Solis's packing list for the S6-EH1P(3-8)K-L-PLUS range, from the installation manual (version 1.2, October 2025), with what the installer still has to provide underneath it.
- The inverter, its back plate and the two screws that lock it to the plate
- Four expansion bolts for fixing the back plate to the wall
- Two pairs of MC4 DC connectors, one pair for each string
- The CT clamp, an ESCT-TA16-100A/50mA on a 5 m lead. Solis makes it compulsory: it clips round the incoming supply and tells the inverter which way power is flowing
- A Wi-Fi and LAN data stick for SolisCloud monitoring, with Bluetooth built into the inverter for setting it up from the app
- A parallel communication cable and four RJ45 plugs for the comms leads
- The quick installation manual
- The battery and its power cables: Solis specifies 2 AWG, about 35 mm², crimped onto R38-8 ring terminals
- A smart meter. It is optional, in place of the CT: the SDM120CTM with its own CT, ordered separately
- PV cable, and the AC cables for the grid and backup circuits
- The AC isolator and the protective devices in the consumer unit
Units from Solis's 2024 production came with a Wi-Fi/GPRS stick instead of the Wi-Fi and LAN one. Everything else in the box is the same in both manuals.
Panels and strings
There are two MPP trackers with one string on each, and each input takes up to 16 A working and 20 A short-circuit. On today's large-cell panels that 16 A limit is usually the one to check first. The trackers work from 90 V to 435 V, and the inverter starts at 90 V with a 500 V maximum, so a string laid out for a 1,000 V string inverter will over-voltage this one: keep each string's cold-morning open-circuit voltage under 500 V.
Two PV figures are worth keeping apart. 7.2 kWp is the largest array Solis recommends, twice the 3.6 kW rating. 5.76 kW is the most solar power the inverter will take in at any moment, 160% of its rating; on a bright day anything the panels make above that is clipped. Panels rarely reach their full rating in UK conditions, so a 7.2 kWp array mostly hits that cap around midday on the brightest days, and an east/west split with one roof face on each tracker hits it less.
The battery side
It takes any battery between 40 V and 60 V, lithium or lead-acid, on one battery port with a BMS link over CAN or RS485. The 3.6 kW charges and discharges at up to 3.6 kW and 80 A, so check the battery's own continuous rating before counting on the inverter's figure. Solis's IntelliHome batteries list this range as compatible. Inverters built before April 2026 need a firmware update before they are commissioned with an IntelliHome battery.
No battery yet? Choose "No battery" in the setup and it runs as a grid-tied solar inverter, sending any spare solar to the grid when export is allowed, until a battery is added.
Backup, generator and off-grid
The backup port carries the full 3.6 kW continuously and twice that for 10 seconds, which gives motors, pumps and air conditioning a reliable start, and up to 35 A passes through to the backup circuit while the grid is up. Smart load control sheds less important loads to stretch the battery, and the backup reserve level is adjustable.
A generator can feed it at up to 3.6 kW, alongside the inverter, and it can run off-grid on solar alone. An existing grid-tied PV inverter can be connected to it for export control and off-grid use, and up to six units run in parallel, which is also how Solis builds a three-phase system from this single-phase model.
Grid approval
On its own the 3.6 kW stays inside G98's 16 A a phase, so the installer tells the network operator within 28 days of commissioning. Fitted alongside existing solar, or swapped for the 5 kW or larger, the site goes over 3.68 kW and needs a G99 application approved before installation.
Built in
- A PV switch, with insulation monitoring, residual-current detection and anti-islanding protection
- A 7-inch screen and Bluetooth for local setup, plus Wi-Fi and LAN through the supplied stick; 2G/3G/4G is an option
- Convection cooling with no fan, under 40 dB(A)
- Arc-fault detection (AFCI 2.0) is an option on this range, not fitted as standard
On the wall
It weighs about 23 kg in a case 335 mm wide, 560 mm high and 253 mm deep, and it takes two people to lift it out of the carton by the hand holds in its heat sink. It is IP66 and rated from −25 °C to +60 °C, a reliable fit for an outside wall, though Solis asks for it to be out of direct sun and away from rooms where people or animals spend long periods, so think garage or utility room rather than hallway or bedroom.
Mount it vertically, within 5 degrees, with 300 mm clear above, 150 mm either side and 500 mm in front. Below it, leave 800 mm to the floor, or 500 mm where there is no battery cabinet or other heat source underneath. Never mount two units one above the other, and keep the top and sides clear of anything stored against them.

Questions on the 3.6 kW
Yes. A Wi-Fi and LAN stick is in the box for SolisCloud, and Bluetooth is built in, so the inverter can be set up from a phone before it is on the network.
Usually not. The CT clamp in the box measures the supply and is what Solis requires for the hybrid functions; the SDM120CTM smart meter is an optional alternative, ordered separately.
Yes. Set "No battery" at commissioning and it runs as a grid-tied inverter; connect any 40–60 V lithium or lead-acid battery later.
Not on its own. It is a single-phase inverter, but Solis lets up to six run in parallel, and three or more can be set up as a three-phase system.
Solis specifies 2 AWG, about 35 mm², on R38-8 ring terminals for the 3 to 6 kW models. The cables are not in the box; the IntelliHome accessory pack covers them for that battery.
Yes, to 10 or 20 years in all. Order the extension with the inverter's serial number in the order notes; Solis issues the certificate in about 6 to 8 weeks.
A qualified electrician. It ties the grid supply, the battery and the consumer unit together, so the work comes under BS 7671, and Solis's manual asks for the battery to be switched off and checked at 0 V before any of its cables are touched.
