Product details

A roof wider than one rail needs a joint, and this is it. The RailConnector splices two lengths of K2 InsertionRail 2.0 end to end, so the row behaves as one rail rather than two that have to be lined up by eye.

That matters more on an insert system than on a clamped one. The module edge slides into the channel, so a step of even a millimetre at the joint is felt as the panel is pushed home.

Where the joint falls

The position of a splice is not free. K2's installation guidance sets where a connector may sit relative to the fixings below it, because the joint is the weakest point of the run and should not land mid-span. Take that from the design output rather than from wherever the rail happens to end.

On a long row it pays to plan the splices before ordering: staggering them between adjacent rails keeps every joint clear of its neighbour.

Questions on the RailConnector

How many do I need?

One per joint, so a run of three rails takes two connectors. Count joints, not rails.

Does it carry load across the joint?

Treat the splice as a detail K2's design output governs – it sets where the joint may fall relative to the fixings. Do not place one mid-span on assumption.

Will it fit the older InsertionRail?

This is the 2.0 connector. Check which generation of rail is on the roof before ordering, because the profiles differ.

Is anything else needed to fit it?

No separate fixings are listed for the connector itself, but the rail still needs its CrossConnector sets to hold it to the mounting rail.
