K2 SingleRail 36 Light Mounting Rail 4.80m
Product details
This is the 4.80 m length of K2 SingleRail 36 Light – the lighter-gauge version of K2's SingleRail 36 profile. At 3.34 kg for nearly five metres it is one of the easiest rails in the K2 range to get up a ladder, which is the whole point of the Light profile.
The 36 is the profile height in millimetres. SingleRail is K2's side-connecting system: the rail carries a side chamber that T-bolts drop into anywhere along its length, so clamps and roof-hook brackets are positioned after the rail is up rather than being threaded on from the end.
Why the 4.80m length
Rail comes in fixed lengths and the choice is really about joints. A 4.80 m rail spans a longer run of modules before a connector is needed, so on a wide array there are fewer splices to align, fewer parts to order and fewer places for the row to step out of line.
Against that, 4.80 m is awkward to handle on a roof and to get to site – it ships on a pallet rather than by courier. Where the array is short, or access is tight, the 3.30 m and 2.40 m lengths usually work out better even though the run needs joining.
What you also need
The rail is supplied on its own. Nothing below comes with it – every item is ordered separately, and all of them are on the cards further down.
- K2 T-bolts for the side chamber – the 20/12 M8x20 is the one specified for SingleRail 36 and 50
- M8 flange nuts to go with them
- K2 Universal Mid Clamp One, which clicks onto SingleRail 36, 50 and 63
- K2 end clamps, sized to the frame depth of your panels
- K2 roof hooks for tile, slate and seam roofs
- Rail connectors, where a run is longer than 4.80 m
Before you order
How far apart the roof hooks sit, and therefore how much rail a given array needs, depends on the roof, the panel size and the wind and snow loading at the postcode. K2 publish that calculation in their own design tool, and the Light profile is rated differently from the standard SingleRail 36. Have the layout calculated before ordering rather than working from a rail length.
Order alongside
-
K2 T-Bolt 20/12 M8x20 (Pack of 100)
The hammerhead bolt made for the SingleRail side chamber. Slides in anywhere and moves later if the layout changes.
-
K2 Hexagon Flange Nut M8 (Pack of 100)
The matching nut. The serrated face stops it backing off under thermal movement.
-
K2 Universal Mid Clamp One 30-42mm
Clicks onto SingleRail 36 and holds panels with a 30-42mm frame between one another.
-
K2 End Clamp Black 34-36mm
Finishes each row. Check it against your panel's frame depth before ordering.
-
K2 SingleHook 3S Long Roof Hook
For tile and slate roofs, with three height settings in the base plate.
-
K2 Omega Cable Clip (Pack of 100)
Routes the DC string along the outside of the rail instead of leaving it on the tiles.
Alternative lengths and profiles
SingleRail 36 comes in more than one length, and SolidRail is the heavier alternative where the span or the loading calls for it.
-
K2 SingleRail 36, 3.30m
The shorter length in the standard gauge – easier to handle, more joints on a long row.
-
K2 SingleRail 36, 4.80m Black
Same length in the standard gauge and a black anodised finish, for an all-black array.
-
K2 SolidRail Light, 4.80m Black
The SolidRail profile instead, black, at the same length.
-
K2 SolidRail Light, 2.40m
The short SolidRail, for small arrays and tight access.
Questions on the SingleRail 36 Light
The height of the rail profile in millimetres. K2 also make SingleRail 50 and 63 – taller profiles that span further between fixings.
It is the same 36mm profile in a lighter gauge, so it weighs less and is rated differently. The two are not interchangeable in a structural calculation – specify whichever K2's design output calls for.
That comes out of the layout rather than the panel count: it depends on rail spacing, roof hook centres and how the rows are split. Send us the array layout and the panel model and we will work the rail schedule out with you.
On a pallet. At 4.80 m it is too long for a parcel carrier, so a kerbside pallet delivery applies and someone needs to be on site to take it.
Yes, with K2 rail connectors, which are ordered separately. On a run longer than 4.80 m a splice is unavoidable; K2's guidance sets where it may fall relative to the fixings.
